César Paternosto, Interview
“The Minimalists despised painting, they thought it was illusionist. So, it was a dialectical thing. I absorbed, let’s say, the Minimalist compositional elements, but on the other hand I rejected that sense of the deprecation of painting as illusionist. I went back to painting, but with a more critical approach. What I did is I faced the oil easel painting, which is the foundation of fine arts in Western culture, and I decided to take a critical, revisionist approach, painting on the sides only. So, the front of the screen where all the painting was made: Kaput!” CP
In this interview directed by Hans Ulrich Obrist, César Paternosto revisits his career as a painter with passion and sincerity.
